New Business Owner Credits PCC Education
To Mike Kolodziejczak, Portland Com
munity College’s landscape technology
graduate, working on large-scale environ
mental projects is nothing new.
The New Growth Landscape Tree Ser
vice owner is in the midst o f a four-month
landscape installation jo b at Portland
Community College’s new Southeast Cen
ter on Southeast 82nd Avenue and Divi
sion Street.
Kolodziejczak says he is thrilled to be
working on a project for the college. He
worked his way through school while
employed at large landscape firms such as
Cedar Landscape and Teufel Nursery Inc.
“I owe a lot to PCC,” he said. “The
courses were outstanding, and the in
structors were invaluable. It’s kind o f
ironic, I went out on my own and now I
have a $500,000job for PCC.”
Kolodziejczak earned an associate’s
degree in the early 1990s and is now a
certified landscape technician and a li
censed landscape contractor.
His contract is part o f the college’s
ongoing effort to help spread money to
PCC’s Minority, Women and Emerging
Small Business effort, an outreach pro
gram set up through the 2,000 construc
tion bond.
The program networks with key organi
