Residence Life program at PSU.
In addition to providing leadership
and direction for a professional
and paraprofessional s ta ff of
approximately 40 members, the
Director will work collaboratively
with auxiliary services in oversight
of the operation of 13 buildings
that house 1500 residents. The
Director is expected to foster an
environment that supports the
mission, policies, and practices of
the University through strategic
planning efforts in collaboration
with academic affairs and student

scholarship. He was the stu ­
dent body vice president and
has held many adm inistrative

“I wanted to help lend visibil­
ity and an African American pres­
ence so others can say, ‘blacks
have been here before. This is
normal for us,” ’ he said.
When Flowers opened his prac­
tice, his African-American client
base was low and slow coming.
“Had it not been for the white
community. I’d be out o f busi­
ness,” he said.
According to Flowers, it took a
bit m o re tim e to teach
chiropractics to local African
Americans. He took a cue from Dr.
Martin Luther King Jr. and evan­
gelized. He taught seminars at
churches and community centers,
and took out educational ads in
local newspapers. Slowly, busi­
ness grew by word-of-mouth and
now Flowers has an international
clientele.

practic was denied to African
Americans for half-of-a-century.
Flowers believes that the holistic
approach of chiropractic is a natu­
ral fit for the black community as
African Americans traditionally
have trusted time-tested folk medi­
cine and natural home remedies.

working towards social change can volunteer to provide legal and
sexual assault advocacy for the Portland W om en's Crisis Line. The 24-
hour domestic violence hotline is seeking bi-lingual and bi-cultural
volunteers who are 18 and older. No experience is necessary. The next
training session is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, April 1 and will take
place from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays vyith two

Portland Community College will feature a non-credit lecture series that
explains how natural medicine can help you rely on wholesome cures
