her hom e and billed as V enus H ottentot in an 1810 L ondon freak show .
The phenom ena that results is the creation o f a full-blow n d iva w ho
received a high degree o f celebrity, only to have parts o f her body
preserved and put on display after her death. The perfo rm an ce w ill take
