Paul Rutherford, a Briton, has been a substantial influence in E urope's free jazz scene and is an undisputed master o f the trombone. T orsten Muller, a German, has blazed trails on his bass only a few can follow. They will play for the first time together at Disjecta, 116 N. Russell St. at 8 p.m. Sliding scale adm ission is $5 to $10. Kwanza Celebration; Thursday, Dec. 5 through Jan. O ver tw enty local African A m erican artists will exhibit textiles, paintings, prints, drawings, photographs, mixed m edia works and sculptures to reflect on one or more o f the seven principles o f Kwanza. The public is invited to attend the First Thursday opening with a live perform ance o f traditional drum m ing and dance from W est Africa. T he IFCC is located at 5340 N. Youth Gallery Showcase; Thursday, Dec. 5 through Jan. This m onth the non-profit gallery for hom eless and transitional youth will show case glass w orks by Erika Kohr and Mel George. Kohrs pieces of m other’s dresses, fathers shoes, beating hearts and fragility pair well with G eorge’s m iniature versions o f ordinary things like bathtubs, folded paper airplanes and tiny polo shirts. P:ear youth will exhibit work in various m ediums, from chain mail to oil paints, graphite and plaster. Featuring a cast o f about 70children, teens and adults, the story o f The King and the Fool involves a king w ho is conquered by a dark knight who is defeated by a fool.
