Pauline Coates
A memorial service was held Saturday, Nov. 2,2002, in Killingsworth
Little Chapel of the Chimes for Pauline Coates, w hodied Oct. 8 at age 88.
She was bom July 16, 1914, in West Park, Pa. She moved to Portland
in 1940 and was a homemaker. In 1965, she married Earl.
Survivors include her husband; sister, Rose W oolsey; brother-in-law,
Ransom W oolsey; sister-in-law, Gail Haus; grandchild, Joe Shidek; and
one great-grandchild. Her son Robert Shidek died in 1993.

Funeral services were held Friday, Nov. 1,2002, in Gantenbein New
Hope Missionary Baptist Church for Jalen Terri Mikel Benton, whodied
Oct. 26 o f cancer at age 4.
Jalen was bom Aug. 14,1998, in Portland and moved to Portland 2001.
She was a student at Children’s Learning Center in Gresham.
Survivors include her mother, Sherry
Smith; father, Jason; sisters, Ashley
Carter and Nichelle McKinney; brother,
Michael McKinney III; grandparents,
Felita Lyday, Gerry Smith, and Rallie and
Maureen Benton; and great-grandmoth

Mission Thanksgiving Meal
Union Gospel Mission is gearing up for
a large Thanksgiving meal. The ministry
will be erecting a tent on Northwest Third
Avenue between Burnside and Couch.
Last year, 1,200 meals were served.
Volunteers are needed to help solicit
food donations the week before Thanks
giving and to help prepare and serve the
