Today’s caravan will travel to
various cities and designated sites
of significance, holding forums
on reparations to descendants of
enslaved Africans, and offering
vital historical information to the
public.
*
Artists and performers will be
featured in an entertainment pro
gram consisting of vendors, Afri
can dance, drumming, spoken
word, hip-hop music, theatrical
performances, short essays, gos
pel, and rhythm and blues vocals.
Local politicians will also address
the gatherings.
Musicians, performers, and
entertainers traveled the old
Chitlin’ Circuit during the Jim
Crow era. The talented descen
dants of enslaved Africans played
to a network of small and large
nightclubs scattered in black
neighborhoods throughout the
nation. It was a safe haven for
such travelers in general, includ
ing some of the most highly ac
claimed recording artists of the
time.
Denied public accommoda
tions as well as human dignity, the
oldChitlin’ Circuit riders relied on
local residents, churches and be
nevolent organizations for food,
housing, advice and direction.
