One year ago, Luther “W oody” Ellett passed away o f leukemia on May 11,2001 at the DoembecherChildren’s Hospital. He was supported by many, including Oregon Health & Sciences University staff and former NB A Trailblazer Brian Grant. Lester professed his belief in Christ and was baptized in the name o f Jesus at Bethesda Chris tian Church in Portland. L e s te r had 4 c h ild re n , LeShontanaye L. Griffin, Lester J. Griffin Jr, Christopher and Lester W iggins and two grandchildren, Tah Janaye ShaRose Marie Gollahon and Zyell JaJuan Griffin. Lester has 4 goddaughters, O m brea, Kashay and Shalay Moore and Kai Annica Walters, all of whom live in Portland. Lester was a loving and de voted father to his children; He was kindhearted and mild man nered. Lester departed this life on Saturday, April 13. He leaves to cherish many fond memories, his . children, grandchildren, god daughters, mother, 7 sisters, Debra Fisher, Sharon Mosley, Honor Mosley - all of Portland, Cynthia Ford o f Vancouver; K athryn, A nita and C ecilia W iggins of Little Rock, Ark.; 4 b ro th e rs, Jam es II, Stevie, Marcus and Keith W iggins of Little Rock, Ark.; Also a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, and friends. He will be sadly missed by many. Urban League of Portland Zimbabwe Artist s Project continued from Metro Walters said 12 of the 28 terror ist groups identified in a State Department report last year are linked to drug trafficking bu, he blamed the drug trade in Colombia for providing the most funding for terrorists in the Western Hemi sphere. “W e’re not saying that all ter rorism is funded by drug con sumption,” Walters said, “but in this hemisphere, a significant por tion is.” AnotherCity Club member, Paul Millius, said he believes in tough drug law enforcement but he ques tioned the concern about mari juana. “It’s the same old rhetoric about marijuana being a ‘gateway drug’ to something worse when 30 years of experience should have taught us that is just not the case,” Millius said. “Now they’re linking it to ter rorism because the government can’t come up with something new.”
