Zimbabwe Music at Lewis & Clark

Two virtuosos o f the mbira, the traditional instrument o f the Shona people
ofZimbabwe, will perform at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 21 at Lewis &
Clark College in the Evans Auditorium, Evans Music Center. The Shona
people have played the mbira for more than 1,000 years for many special
occasions. Hundreds o f songs are passed from generation to generation.

Tears of Joy Theatre
Tear o f Joy Theatre presents “ Beanstalk!” This is a play performed
with whimsical marionettes and giant masks. “Beanstalk!” is stuffed
with deliciously repulsive one-eyed giants, a golden egg-laying hen,
an always-full supper-pot, and a golden harp to soothe the soul.
Performances will continue until Sunday, March 24,2 p.m. and4 p.m.,

Women’s History Month’ at IFCC
Through March 30
The Interstate Firehouse Cultural Center, in celebration o f W omen’s
History Month will be having two gallery presentations. The Main
Gallery will feature Ping Khaw-Sutherland's multidisciplinary project
‘Perspectives in Peace” and Shezuet M iller’s “Healing in Motion.”

betan speaker Tenzin Tethong, lecturing on “A People and Govern­

Pacific University’s Hawaiian Club’s 42nd annual Luau is scheduled for
Saturday, April 13. The theme for the Luau is “N o Task Is Too Big
When Done Together.” The evening will feature Polynesian dance,
music and entertainment, as well as an authentic luau menu. The Luau

Portland Opera presents the dark and thrilling musical
"The Consul, ” that's set in an unnamed South American
city involving a faceless consulate. Winner o f a Pulitzer
