Middle-aged photographer Bobby Garfield goes back to his past
when the death of his childhood friend and upstairs neighbor, Ted
Brautigan, reminds Bobby of the summer they spent together in 1960,
when he was only 11 years old. That summer, Bobby was blessed with
close friends in Carol and Sully and intrigued by the presence of Ted,
a new lodger in the boarding house where the boy lived with his mother,
Liz. Ted becomes a father-figure as Bobby’s memories of his own
deceased father fade, and the boy thrives on Ted’s much-needed
friendship and attention. But Ted has a past of unknowns, which makes
Bobby wary at times. Ted hires Bobby to read the paper for him, but the
job turns out to be much more than that; Bobby must also help Ted avoid
a dangerous pursuer, and at the same time find courage and forgiveness
in his young heart. In remembering this special summer, the adult Bobby
comes full circle, a circle completed by a chance encounter. (Genre:
