That summer, Bobby was blessed with close friends in Carol and Sully and intrigued by the presence of Ted, a new lodger in the boarding house where the boy lived with his mother, Liz. Ted becomes a father-figure as Bobby’s memories of his own deceased father fade, and the boy thrives on Ted’s much-needed friendship and attention. But Ted has a past of unknowns, which makes Bobby wary at times. Ted hires Bobby to read the paper for him, but the job turns out to be much more than that; Bobby must also help Ted avoid a dangerous pursuer, and at the same time find courage and forgiveness in his young heart.
