Coining To
Portland?
Bill Would
Allocate Funds For
New Stadium
Major League baseball might be a
bit closer to coming to Portland.
Rep. Bill Witt ofPortland has intro
duced a bill that would allocate $ 150
million in lottery-backed bonds fora
baseball stadium once a major league
team agrees to relocate to Oregon.
Four teams suffering from poor
attendance are thought to be candi
dates to move to Portland: the Min
nesota Twins, the Oakland A ’s, the
Montreal Expos and the Tampa Bay
Devil Ravs.
If Portland were to get a team, a
new ballpark would be necessary.
The refurbished PGE Park is not big
enough to handle a major league team.
