February 28,2001 Page B2 Major Leagues Coining To Portland? Bill Would Allocate Funds For New Stadium Major League baseball might be a bit closer to coming to Portland. Rep. Bill Witt ofPortland has intro­ duced a bill that would allocate $ 150 million in lottery-backed bonds fora baseball stadium once a major league team agrees to relocate to Oregon. Four teams suffering from poor attendance are thought to be candi­ dates to move to Portland: the Min­ nesota Twins, the Oakland A ’s, the Montreal Expos and the Tampa Bay Devil Ravs. If Portland were to get a team, a new ballpark would be necessary. The refurbished PGE Park is not big enough to handle a major league team.
