Civil War Could Lead to Rose Bowl
T he first shots have been fired in
O re g o n ’s infam ous Civil W ar foot
ball game.
S om eone thought that the “O ” on
S kinner Butte in Eugene needed a
little m akeover and spray-painted the
usually yellow letter bright orange.
B ut the real w ar is ju st beginning.
O regon State stands as the favor
ite in a lot o f m inds, largely because
o f an easy w in (33-9) at A rizona last
Saturday.
In term s o f national interest and
bow l im plications, it’s a Civil W ar
gam e for the ages.
T he big gam e could produce a
Rose Bow l invite. For the D ucks, it’s
sim ple— if they win Saturday, it’s the
P A C -1 Ocham pionship and they’re in
the Rose Bowl.
For the B eavers, it’s a little m ore
difficult. T hey need to win and then
hope that W ashington State upsets
W ashington in the A pple Cup. T hat
game will be played in Pullman, Wash.
I f both O regon State and W ash
ington win, the Huskies will go to the
Bowl since they beat the Beavers
earlier this year.
But the losers o f the Rose Bowl
race could still end up in a big tim e
bowl gam e — all three are ranked in
the top ten in this w eek ’s BCS poll.
H ere’s a quick breakdow n o f the
run for the Rose Bowl:
O regon goes if they beat O regon
State; O regon State goes if they beat
O regon and W ashington loses to
W ashington State; and W ashington
goes if they beat W ashington State
and O regon State beats O regon.
The Civil W ar gam e is at R eser
Stadium in Corvallis Saturday at 12:30
p.m.
