Salom e is a full-length work con c e iv e d a n d c h o re o g ra p h e d by G raem e M urphy, w ith haunting, M iddle Eastern-inspired music by A ustralianCom poser Michael Askill and p e rc u s s io n is t O m ar F aru k Tekbilek. The collaboration between Askill and M urphy is longstanding and has been called "one o f the most interesting co-operative ventures in the perfo rm in g a rts...p ro d u c in g works o f m ajor scope and duration.” The production also features striking costumes by fashion designer Akira Isogaw a, an d a sleek, m in im alist set d esig n ed by M urphy an d is stunningly lit by lighting designer John Rayment. The action centers on a quartet o f characters: John the Bap tist (Josef Brown), Salome (Tracey C a rr o d u s ) , H e ro d (B ra d le y Chatfield), and Herodias (Janet Vernon). The plot follows the bib lical storyline closely, moving from John’s river baptism, to his fateful meeting with Salome in H erod’s debauched court, tot he familiar gory conclusion.
