In 1973, Probasco becam e a case­
w orker in S C F 's 'i anthill B ranch and
five years later a supervisor. In 198",
he w as prom oted to D eschutes Branch
M anager. W hile in D eschutes, he led
the m ove to establish the D escutes

“ In terd ep en d en ce is th e highest

"Som ething that is dependent relies
on others, and som ething that is inde­
pendent takes careofitself. But if som e­
thing is interdependent, the reliance is
shared and that is w hat an agency needs
to hav e with other agencies and the
com m unity to protect children.”

gree in corrections an d a m a ste r’s in

care program w hich focuses on the
strengths and needs o f a fam ily s cir­
cum stances, bringing together S t F,
fam ily m em bers and other prov iders
to plan for the needs of a child w ho has
been abused o r neglected.
In 1998, Probasco was interim man­
ager o f SCF ’s statewide system of care
unit and assisted w ith its implementation
and integration with existing programs.

Probasco said his initial focus will be on

student com m unity service experiences to class­
room instruction kn o w n as service-learning.

F oundation to pro m o te serv ice-learning becau se

Exam ples range from C raw fordsville E lem en­
tary School students w ho studied about H o n d u ­
ras before sending supplies to victim s o f H u m -
cane M itch, to students at C rook C o u n ty H igh
S chool w ho practiced their m ath skills w hile
conducting soil erosion tests follow ing a flood. In
