Capturing the cultures, people,
and flavor of an around-the-world
odyssey, Susan Kuznitsky honors

women and children of the world for Mother’s Day and through the month
of May at the Antoinette Hatfield Gallery. The tribute was inspired by
Kuznitsky’s travels, and her “ real life” experience as the mother of two
young children. The “Global Odyssey” is a series of paintings depicting
women and children of the world at the Antoinette Hatfield Gallery (55
SW Taylor St.) from May 6-28.
Rhododendron Gardens
The Rhododendron Gardens (at SW 28th Ave. across from Reed Col­
lege) will be having a plant sale on Mother’s Day. Stroll through multi­
tudes of gorgeous azalea and rhododendron bushes in bloom and feed the
ducks. A memorable event for all. Admission is $2 for adults and children
12 years old or under can enter for free.
African American HIV/AIDS Candlelight Vigil
The first annual African American HIV/AIDS Vigil, commemorating
African Americans who are living or have died with HIV/AIDS will take
place on Saturday, May 8. The event is being held on Mother’s Day Week
end to honor and validate the mothers who have cared for and nurtured
the sick, homeless, and marginalized members of our communities. The
Vigil will be located at Lutheran Inner-City Ministries, 4219 N E Martin
Luther King Jr. Blvd. From 7-9 PM. Call 281-7036.
The Natural Way
Vi Hilbert, a storyteller and Greatgrandmother of Upper Skagit Na­
tion will be speaking at the Unity World Healing Center (366 Third Street)
in Lake Oswego. Vi has been declared a National Historic Treasure. She
is part of the Natural Way series that’s co-sponsored by the Earth and
Spirit Council, The Institute for World Healing and Eagle Flight Center.
This special event will be on May 7 from 7:30 until 9:30 PM.
