I drama. The Players C lub, star-
I ring Lisa Raye with recording
star Ice Cube making his writ
ing-directing debut, opened in
Portland April 8th.
When she’s not raising her
young son and trying to make-
ends meet, Diana Armstrong
(Lisa Raye) dreams of becom
ing a broadcast journalist. De
termined to survive and get a
college degree, Diana takes a
job as a stripper at The Players
Club, a notorious strip joint run
by a two-bit hustler named Dol
lar Bill (Bernie Mac).
Under the stage name o f Dia
mond, Diana becomes a playful
seductress, teasing and tempt
ing the denizens o f the dark for
the crumpled dollar bills they
toss on-stage. Unlike the other
d an cers— Ronnie (C hrystale
Wilson) and Tricks (Adele Giv
ens), whose am bitions have
slowly withered beneath the
harsh strip club lights— Dia
mond is determined to get in, get
the money and get out.
