D eputy A rrested O n D rug C harges T h e M u ltn o m a h C o u n ty Sheriff s Office Investigations unit arrested a M ultnom ah County S h e riffs Corrections Deputy on drug charges. The investigation stared when investigators received a tip that Corrections D eputy Ralph Morris was buying and using illegal drugs including methamphetamine. M ult nom ah C ounty S h e r if f s O ffice D etectives and narcotics Investi gators conducted a crim inal inves tigation o f the allegations w hich lead to the arrest o f Mr. M orris, in Tigard. A t the tim e o f his arrest Mr. M orris was found to be in posses sion o f about $100.00 o f m eth am phetam ine. T igard po lice helped w ith the arrest and Mr. M orris was lodged at the W ash ington C ounty ja il on charges o f possession and distribution o f m etham phetam ine. D eputy M orris has been a cor rections deputy for 26 years. Search Warrant On Leathers Oil Co. T he M u ltn o m a h C o u n ty S h e riffs Office, Special Investi gations Unit (SIU) served asearch warrant on Leathers Oil Co. Gas Station. The Unit was conducting a narcotics investigation involv ing persons who work at the sta tion and who have been selling drugs from it. SU1 fo u n d p re p a c k a g e d am ounts o f marijuana and metham phetamine, which was seized. Ap proximately $3,000.00 in cash was seized in relation to the drug distri bution as well as a 22-caliber re volver. Arrested at the station was Thom as John Girts o f Sandy, O r egon. He is being charged with dis tribution o f a controlled substance schedule I for the marijuana and dis tribution o f a controlled substance schedule II for the metham phet amine. he is also charged with 2 counts o f possession o f a con trolled substance. S h e riffs Deputies closed the station for approximately 3 hours during the service. Five persons were detained but only Mr. Girtz is being charged at this time. Memorial Plaque Unveiled For Officer Thomas L. Jeffries On Saturday, April 25,1998, at 2:00 pm, a Memorial Plaque and Plaza was dedicated to the memory o f fallen Portland Police Bureau Officer Thomas L. Jeffries. The unveiling and dedication took place at East Precinct and included addresses by M ayor Vera Katz, Police C hief Charles A. Moose, and East Precint Commander Mark Paresi. Mr. John Yaws opened the dedi cation ceremony, which included the unveiling o f the Plague by lo cal artist Rip Caswell. The Plaze was dedicated by Ms. Kay Collier. Mrs. Vicki Jeffries attended the dedication. Task Force Eyes Sites For Baseball Field V ancouver’s Baseball Task Force is preparing for the second o f four public m eeting to discuss whether the city should have a m inor league baseball franchise. The focus o f the m eeting will be on possible sites for a baseball stadium. The following sites will be consid ered: • Clark College baseball field • Evergreen Airport at Mill Plain and 136th Avenue • Kyocera at Fourth Plain and 54th Avenue • C-TRAN Parks and Ride at 164th and SR 14 • Clark County Fairgrounds • Chong site at 1-5 and 99th Street • Washington State University at 78th Street and 75th Avenue • Keller site at Fourth Plain and Ward Road Themcetingwillbe Wednesday, Apnl 29, at 7 pm in Vancouver City Hall Council Chambers, 210 E. 13th St. The five-member task force was ap pointed by Mayor Royce Pollard in January and isexpectedtodelivera final report to city council in September.
