The Urban League is helping jo b seekers prepare for C a reer Connections by holding inter view and resume preparation w ork shops in advance. “To take full ad vantage o f the career fair, jo b seekers should bring multiple copies o f their current resum e,” said the Urban League’s W orkforce Development Director M amella Bingham. Job seekers will attend a short orientation before gaining access to w orkshops and the em ployer exhibit area. In the Exhibit Hall, employers will set up booths where human re source staff and job seekers can dis cuss current openings and future out looks. Interview areas will be avail able onsite. Job seekers can explore immediate openings, assess their ca reer goals and make important con nections for their future. Career Connections will start at 8 a.m. Friday with an Employers’ Kick o ff Breakfast. The kickoff breakfast will feature the presentation o f the League’s “Employment Partner o f the Y ear” Award to the company that has gone above and beyond the call o f duty in pursuing the goals o f affirma tive action, community involvement, outreach, and employee retention. Tickets to the breakfast are $35 each. Memorial Coliseum is served by Max light rail and by Tri-Met bus routes # 1,4 , 5 . 8 , 10 ,4 0 ,4 1,6 3 , 70, 77, 85, and 9 IX. That’s where we come in — no matter what the weather's like. # PACIFIC POWER A PacifiCorp Company New Ospirg Survey Finds Credit Reports Riddled with Errors: SAFEWAY o Finds Mistakes by “ Data Dealer” Still Hurt Consumers, Despite New Laws A national survey released to day by the Oregon State Public In te re s t R e se a rc h G ro u p (O SPIR G ) found that, despite passage o f a 1996 federal law, nearly one-third o f credit reports still contain serious errors that could cause consumers to be de nied credit. The report also found that many consumers still cannot get through to bureaus to request their reports. The report makes recom m en dations to Congress and state leg islatures on ways to improve credit report access and assurance, since reports are now being used not only for credit, job, and insurance applications but also when con sumers try to write checks, open bank accounts or even use ATM debit cards. “Many credit reports are tick ing data time bombs o f inaccurate information that could devastate a consum er’s financial health at any m o m e n t,” said Jo h n V alley , O SPIRG C onsum er Advocate. “The data dealers are selling busi nesses credit reports that arc full o f mistakes to, and innocent con sumers pay the price."
