Vessels Vincent McDermott Vincent McDermott to Present Retirement Concerts Vincent M cDerm ott, professor of music at Lewis & Clark C ol lege. will cap his 20-year career at the college with a pair of co n certs show casing his music and the com positions of eight of his former students. The concerts are Friday. Feb. 6. X p.m „ in Evans Auditorium , and Saturday. Feb. 7. X p in. in Agnes Flanagan Chapel. Lewis & Clark College, 0 6 15 S.W. Palatine Hill Road. A dm ission is free. Perform ers include Lew is & Clark students, faculty, visiting com posers, the Oregon Repertory singers, and leading, local music professionals. Alumni com posers will travel from as far as Korea, New York and Hawai i to be part of the concerts. ‘‘My students anil the College have given life to my own artistic produc tivity,” said McDermott, who will perform selections of his work com posed from 1970 to the present. “I want to share my music and my stu dents’ music as a capstone to my years at Lewis & Clark.” The program s will feature opera scenes, cham ber m usic, choral music, world music and electronic music. “The concerts will cover nearly every genre of m usical styles," said Gil Seemly, James W Rogers professor of M usic and chair of Lewis & C la rk ’s m usic d ep art ment. “They will show the breadth and the diversity of our gradu ates. V incent encouraged his stu dents to develop their own style. M usic com position has becom e a vital aspect of our music program thanks to V incent." Brings In The "Noise/Funk" Merchandise Vessels, "Tableware with meaning," is the only place in Portland to purchase merchandise associated with the Broadway play, “Bring In Da Noise, Bring In Da Funk." The touring company for the Tony award winning production will be performing in Portland from February 24 through March I. And, Vessels already hits the merchandise on hand in time for the run of the play. “Noise/Funk" items available include mugs, magnets, hats, T-shirts, hooded sweatshirt, and drumstick sets. The original Broadway cast performance is also available on CD and cassette. Vessells, “Tableware with meaning,” features ethnic items for the dining, bath and kitchen.
