T he play presents eight charactersall based on true stories researched through workshops and interviews with high school and college age popi liations. The eight characters depicted each represent a different cultural aspect of American society. "Faces o f America,” written and di rected by Colin Cox and starring Fran de Leon, was created in response to de mands for div ersity workshops. Recog nizing that their strengths lay in tlte the atre. CoxiinddeLconbcgiinanintensive research of young Americans. After interviewing more than 60 people, they begiui to formulate the characters de picted lnthiscxtraordinarily truthful por trayal of American society. The program premiered at the Los Angeles ThcatrcCcnterinMiirch 1995. It has since ap p eared natio n ally at Pcpperdine University, the U niversity of Puget Sound, the University o f Southern California, the National Association of Foreign Student Adminisfrators, Colgate University and Cornell University As an actor, de Leon lias worked with several noted theatre companies Her theatre credits include Aramis in "The Three Musketeers, " Puck in" A Midsum- mcrNight’sD reani'iuidCaiolyn Babbitt in "A W om an's Hand ” As a solo per form er she has toured extensively throughout the U nited States w ith "Playfair,” a specially designed interac tive student program.
