J Crime Stoppers Aaron Trey Briggs III The Portland Police Bureau, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, are asking for your help in locating and apprehending Aaron Trey Briggs III. A felony arrest warrant is on file Even if you haven’t charging Briggs with Assault in the Second Degree. The charge stems from an inci dent which occurred on July 17, 1997, in which Briggs is alleged to have shot a 13-year-old victim in the face with a handgun. Aaron Trey Briggs III isdescribed as an 18-year-oId black male, with a date of birth of August 8, 1979. Briggs is 6 ’0 tall, weighing 170 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. Briggs has a scar under his left eye, and the phrase “Mr. Playboy” tattooed on a finger of his left hand. Briggs’ last known address is in the 400 block of NE San Rafael Street in Portland. Help sought Portland Police Bureau Homi cide Investigators, in cooperation with Crime Stoppers, are asking for your help in identifying and appre hending the suspect or suspects in a murder. On Wednesday, May 28, 1997, at about 3:30 in the morning, 34-ycar- old Wendy Kay Limand a male com panion, were seated in a car parked at North Albina Avenue and North Webster Street. A white mid-size American car occupied by two black males, approached westbound on North W ebster Street and pulled alongside the victim ’s car. Numer ous gunshots were fired from the suspect vehicle fatally injuring Lim and wounding her companion. The suspect vehicle then (led the scene westbound on Webster. Investiga tors are attempting to determine a motive for the shooting. Arson deaths trial opens A 12-year-old boy who started a fire that killed eight Mexican immi grants, including an entire family, should not be held responsible be cause o f limited mental capacity, defense attorneys said on Wednes day. In opening arguments on behalf of one o f O regon's youngest defen dants. attorney Jennifer Harrington argued that Ray DeFord did not know what he was doing when he used newspapers to start the June 1996 apartment house fire in Aloha. Because DeFord was 11 at the time, he is being tried as a juvenile on eight counts o f first-degree mur der, eight counts o f first-degree m anslaughter and one count o f felony arson. The maximum penalty is incarceration until his 25th birth day. The court-appointed defense at torneys said DeFord was abused when he was younger, is borderline retarded and has the mental capaci ties o f a 7-year-old.
