Fighter turns to religious healing
The Rev. Alfred Audette has been
ordained only five years, but he leans an
experienced, com passionate ear into
the confessional grill: w orld-savvy but
ne ver w orld-w eary.
“There isn’t a businessm an w ho can
tell m e anything I h aven’t lived before.
There isn’t a married man o r w om an
w ho can tel I m e anyth ing I haven ’ t heard
before. And there isn’t a kid w ho can tell
m e anything I h av en 't seen before,” says
the pastor o f St. M arguerite B ourgeoys
parish.
He states this matter-of-factly, w ith­
out a boast or sigh, know ing that not
m any priests o r clergy o f any denom i­
nation have lived the life he has lived:
husband, father o f four, w idower, grand­
father o f 14 - “eight in Texas, four in
M aryland, one in Virginia, and one in
heaven” - and now adm inistrator o f a
rural church with a leaky ro o f and a
h em orrhaging debt that g o t him in
trouble with som e parishioners when he

m ent,” he said. “T here w ere no family
pilot’s license and no longer rents a
plane at nearby D anbury airport to take
on.”
