This year's series, which starts
June 18, include Rhythm and Zoo on
Wednesday and Thursday nights,
and ZooBeat, an exciting new week
end series.
Funds raised from the series w ill
benefit ongoing youth education pro
grams at the zoo.
Since 1979, when the zoo first
began presenting music, the park
like setting o f zoo’s concert lawn
has become Portland's prem ier place
(or popular music.

N.E. Precinct has completed a two month
undercover narcotics mission with the indict
ments of 27 drug dealers and a total o f 7 1 drug
charges. O fficers are currently in the process
o f arresting the indicted drug dealers on
arrest warrants. Several o f the indicted sub
jects are gang members or gang affiliates.
Plain clothes N .E. Precinct officers, along
with informants, purchased narcotics from
drug dealers in the area o f N Vancouver
Avenue and N. Fremont Street over a two-
month period.
N .E. Precinct uniform district officers,
neighborhood liaison officers, and commu
nity input fueled the undercover mission.
Along with N .E. Precinct officers, members
o f the Gang Enforcement Team (G E T ) and
officers from the Drugs and Vice D ivision
(D V D ) assisted in the mission

Portland Police Detectives in cooperation with the F B I fugitive
Task Force, Washington County Sheriff Office, and the Tigard
Police Department arrested Daniel DeJesus, male Hispanic, D O B
August 29, 1978, in connection with the shooting death o f
Kenneth Shanafelt
At approximately 11:00 am Thursday June 19, 1996 police
arrested DeJesus at his place o f employment inside o f the Wash
ington Square Shopping Center DeJesus, a Tigard resident, was
taken into custody without incident
DeJesus is believed to be the shooter in the June 7th death o f
Vancouver resident, Kenneth Shanafelt Shanafelt was in the
company o f his wife when he was fatally struck by a gunshot round
while w alking near SW 2nd Ave. and SW Salmon St. in down
town Portland.
The shooting is believed to have occurred as a result o f a fistfight
that escalated into a shooting situation There were at least 10
individuals involved in the altercation when the shots were fired.
DeJesus is believed to have gang affiliations in the Washington
County area Several o f the others involved are also believed to be
gang affiliated Search warrants have been served and a handgun
has been recovered. DeJesus is lodged in the Justice Center Jail.
