AFC Announces Stock Sales
A tlanta-based A m erica’s F avor­
ite Chicken Com pany (A FC), the
p are n t co m p an y o f P o p ey es
C hicken & Biscuits and C hurchs
Chicken, announced today it w ould
sell a m ajority interest in the co m ­
pany to an affiliate o f the Los A n ­
g eles-b ased investm ent firm o f
Freem an Spogli & Co. Incorpo­
rated.
T he effort to raise additional
capital was led by m anagem ent and
is supported by the C anadian Im p e­
rial Bank o f C om m erce and all o f
the other principal shareholders.
Proceeds from the equity infusion
will be used for debt repaym ent and
capital im provem ents.
“T h is p u rc h a se sig n ific a n tly
deleverages the com pany and p ro ­
vides us with a strategic investm ent
partner that has the capacity to ac­
celerate our com p an y ’s strategic
initiatives and developm ent,” said
Frank Belatti, chairm an and C E O
o f AFC. “W e will now concentrate
on new opportunities in the m arket­
place to be the Franchsior O f Choice
o f a portfolio o f high-value brands.”
As part o f the transaction, and
affiliate o f PEN M A N Partners, a
private C hicago-based investm ent
firm, will also becom e a shareholder
o f A FC by m aking an equity invest­
ment in the com pany.
