“Nonviolence is the answer to crucial political and
moral questions o f our time; the need for man to
overcome oppression and violence without
resorting to oppression and violence.
Man must evolve for all human conflict
a method which rejects revenge,
aggression and retaliation.
The foundation o f such a method is love. ”

... and hundreds of your neighbors in
N/NE Portland are saying to the forces of
hate, bigotry and prejudice:
"Not In OUR Neighborhood!"
Support Everyone's
Basic Rights and
Living Wages For All!
Among the 71 ballot measures filed for
the November 1996 election are measures
which unfairly target, scapegoat and blame
people of color, women, immigrants, public
workers, and unions.
The hundred-plus neighbors who signed
our names to this ad pledge not to sign
mean-spirited ballot measures which take
away basic civil, human, and workers
rights. Keep bigotry off the ballot- join us in
saying that you, too, "Decline To Sign!"

We pledge our support of the ballot mea
sure to increase the minimum wage
from $4.75/hour to $6.50/hour by 1999.
A more livable minimum wage helps work
ing families and our community's small
businesses, too, by increasing buying
power and raising the standard of living.
