Murray gave center staff a short
history o f her life:
“ I was born in 1912 in Kansas
where I lived with mother and dad
who fought in the C iv il War to free us
from slavery. M y father died in 1920.
I lost mother at 18 years o f age. Later
I met my husband. We had 3 daugh
ters and one son,” she said. "In 1948,
I was in the VanPort flood. 1 lost
everything. I had but the children and
our dog. I was awarded a certificate
(rom the White House because o f my
work in the shipyards and no acci
dents. I worked at Albertina Kerr's
home for children. I love the senior
center and all who are in it I love
people and these people are my life.
