I sa v s Manx interp retatio n s o f the W ord o f God are done by people who attempt to justify how they live and what they want and desire. For ever goes beyond this world, howev er and what we "do , "think , re mains as a memorial to us. whether it be good or bad. We ask why people always re member the bad things we do, espe cially the bad things women do? A good report is hard to come by among men, but it is not impossible. The Bible says these things: Practice pure things, just things, lovely things. "M eekness and temperance": against such there is not law' . Gal. 5:23. This tvpe o f mind tocus is not a one time event, nor is it brought torth. upon and, to secure a good goou report icp u u demand, among certain people, nor when we desire to make ourselves look good: but this type o f thinking must be present in us at all times, to meet all types o f situations. The woman, waiting patiently in Bethany with her precious ointment, to anoint the head ot Jesus, should he come, was prepared to do the "good thing, at her ow n expense, should the opportunity arise. Jesus came and the woman took the expensive oint ment (some say it cost a years salary) and poured it on the head ot Jesus. The Disciples were horrified at what they thought to be w asteful, stating it might have been sold for much, and given to the poor; but Jesus said unto them, "Why trouble ye the woman ? For she hath wrought a good work upon me. For ye have the poor al ways with but ....... me j ye have not ...... j you; —, — - Facts can be “locked in and made a permanent part of our supply o f know ledge. They can be put into books, but for generations to remem ber and find these facts can be an "iffy” business. On the other hand, the human memory can recall the name and appearance o f another hu man long departed and remember their mannerisms, their smile, their walk A walk, a smile, a mannerism cannot be written down alphabeti cally for indexing or for computer retrieval, 6ut keeps alive that person as a living memorial in the hearts o f those loved ones left behind. God gave us the pow er to build memories, but he did not provide an eraser that we can use as we choose. We can be forgiven for what we ought not to do. but can we and others forget? Let us make sure that the memorials we always. For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial. "Verily, I say unto y ou, w heresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial o f her." Matt. 36:6-13. Priorities must be set in our lives if we would build "good" memorials. There is a time for family, for friends, for the poor and homeless, for the naked and hungry. A season for all things....but....God must be first in all things. Forget and put aside the re wards of this world, the praise of peo ple: seek not the accolades of men; trump not your own cause; for if you receive your rewards, praise, back patting here on earth, there will be none in the glorious hereafter; so states the Bible, the Word of the living God. build are those with which we will wish to live, and which we will be proud to take with us into eternity. Holy, Godly followers o f God, are ordinary' people building extraordi nary memories as spiritual founda tions for future generations. What is it that inspires us to make ourselves and others wise and better? What is it that moves us to help our youth learn the timeless messages o f life by their involve ment in various services to m ankind.’ The answ er is simple .... it is the Spirit o f God. Our service, compassion and fulfillment unites this spirit in each of us and makes it a dynamic force which creates a good report among men. To be kind, gentle and truthful; To make our family happier for our presence, to renounce evil when that shall be necessary and not be embit- tered, to keep a few friends, but these without capitulation; Above all, on the same condition to keep friends with ourselves This task faces all people, hut more so ify e be tollowers o f God.. To build we must use our memo ry and reinforce our memory by fre quently verbalizing among ourselves the good traits of those we are memo rializing. Memory not only gives us bare facts, but the feelings associated with them. After a lifetime of other events and activities, it is easy to readily recall the mannerisms, voices and teachings of those family members and others, who with their patience and love guided us through the lessons of Faith, wisdom, truth and charity, thus continuing their “good report long after they have departed for a "better” home in glory.
