month. He has spent almost his whole
life in state foster care, and is now
one o f approximately 180 Oregon
children awaiting adoptive families.

Like many o f the youngsters in
need o f adoptive parents. Jay had a
rough start in life. Born to a mother
who was unable to meet his needs,
Jay lived briefly with a relative, and
then entered the foster care system.
He has received excellent care from
a medically trained foster mom. and
has overcame the early effects o f
prenatal drug exposure. Jay is now
ready for a family o f his own.
Jay is a healthy boy who enjoys
music, drawing, being read to, and
playing outdoors. He is shy until he
gets to know a person. When he feels
secure and happy. Jay has a wonder
ful smile! Jay has good coordination
and muscle control. He enjoys play
ing with mechanical toys such as
Legos, and shows advanced ability
with them. Jay is behind other chil
dren his age in his language skills,
and he receives speech therapy to

group for women recovering from

to provide support based on the pro
gram 's philosophy , w hich centers on

WFS is a non-profit organization
wh ich offers a ph i losophy o f 13 State

threatening problem that once had

Emphasis is on growth and on the
present: Participants learn from the
past, plan for tom orrow, and live
today. Meetings are lead by a peer
moderator.
