The N orthw est A frikan A m er­
ican Ballet Com pany, with an open­
ing performance by L ora and the
Sukutai M arim ba & Dance En­
semble will perform Tuesday, Feb.
28, at 7 p in. in the Smith Center
Ballroom (Room 355, 1825 SW
Broadw ay), culminating the celebra­
tion of Black History Month at Port­
land State University.
T ickets are $8 in advan ce or

The Northwest Afrikan Ameri­
can Ballet has performed throughout
the West Coast, from Alaska to South­
ern California, formorethan 13 years.
They present traditional music and
dances from Senegal, Guinea and
Mali in West Africa.
Lora and the Sukutai Marimba
Dance Ensemble, based in Seattle,
Wash., will be the opening perform­
ers on Feb. 28. Thistroupecom bines
dance, music and storytelling to cel­
ebrate the heritage of the Shona peo-
pie from Zimbabwe. The group was
at PSU this last November as part of
the fourth Zimbabwe Music Festival
that had audiences dancing, leaving
