Along the way, Gallagher, a bachelor in his mid-30’s, was joined by Lani Williams as the director of publicity; Clark Corkum as the producer of "Night Light;" Nancy Johnson, who volunteers her tal ents as a part-time secretary; and Adrianna Carr, who has extensive background in volunteer work and fund-raising. "It is a privilege to be involved with an organization that is going to reach people for Christ,” explains Carr. “I have a real heart for this age group [18-35]. We want them to know that God wants them just as they are.” LightSide Productions held their Third Annual "Light the Night” Benefit September 10 at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts. The show was jam-packed with high-quality performances and excep tionally powerful multi-media presentations. ITalented dancers, mimes, and singers from the Portland area dazzled the audience for two hours. Special guest Carol Lawrence, well-known dancer, actress and co-host of the "700 Club,” delighted the patrons by teaching six men from the audience how to soft-shoe with top hats and canes. This benefit, like LightSide itself, was excellence in every detail. Rev. Clark Tanner of Beaverton Christian Church attended the benefit and told the audience, “Our church also uses the arts to reach people for Christ. That's why I’m so glad that LightSide is doing something extraordinary. I'm glad they’re coloring outside the lines. There's a great vision here.” “Night Light” is, of course, simply the first of many candles LightSide hopes to kindle in the darkness of the American arts and media. Besides producing other programs, Gallagher hopes to create a national network of churches to reach out to the people who respond to the shows. He has already provided an 8(K) number with each broadcast for those who want to respond. "We can refer callers who are interested to local congregations that can meet their needs. By the very nature of television, w e’re not truly a discipleship ministry. We're scattering seed and watering,” says Gallagher. Gallagher also foresees a national conference on Christ and the Arts that would gather people whom God has gifted in all the arts: the visual arts of painting and sculpture; the musical arts, the production arts, and the media. The broadening vision for LightSide is grow ing— because God is unlimited. “LightSide is an ice-breaking ship, allowing others to follow in our wake,” illustrates Gallagher. “God is building something sub stantial here and part of the deepening and broadening of the channel is hard work— both spiritually and physically.” “Incredible spiritual warfare goes on over God’s church, over the world—over everything that Christians set their hands to do. There is an Enemy that will seek to counter everything productive that is attempted for God’s kingdom," cautions Gallagher. "The arts and media that have long been controlled by the Enemy, so the mag nitude of the conflict that we encounter could be greater than in other areas because of the sheer potential to reach vast numbers of people through the media. The one who would like to stop that from hap pening will work overtime to try to see us destroyed, especially in our infancy—just like Herod was inspired by the Enemy to wipe out the life of Jesus in his early infancy because of the threat that the Son of God would pose to the Enemy’s kingdom on Earth. This foundation al time in the Spirit of sowing seeds in prayer is vital. “ How can God’s children in the Portland area strengthen this effort? "Stand with us in prayer and spiritual warfare,” answers Gallagher. “Partner with us in finances, talents and time. Come find out who we are and what w e’re doing. Don’t curse the darkness. Stand with us and light one candle." ■ > UNION'AVENUE< gl ' ass 'X gmpany ; All Types of Auto, Plate and Window Glass Storm Doors and Windows 4709 N.E.
