SPENCER GROOMS LANCE FOR TITLE FIGHT by P romise K ing Portland boxing promoter and former world boxing contender Thad Spender stands behind Lance Holcomb (left), an Everett, Wash, fighter he plans to groom for a world title. Thad Spencer, remember him? He was the fame number one contender to the throne held by boxing legend Muhammed Ali in the early sixties. Spencer is back again, doing what he loves best. Boxing. This time he is not jabbing and dodging punches, rath er he is grooming young ones in the game and promoting others for possi ble shots at the world titles. Spencer was all smiles as he re cently signed on impressive Lance Holcomb of Everett. Wash. Like other great boxers who grew from poverty to greatness, Holcomb started his career living in project hous es. He was 11 years old when he start ed boxing.
