I The E Tech heat pump water heater cuts your water heating costs. This is one of many installation options you can choose. Hot water for taking a shower, doing the d ish es, and w ashing hands. It’s som ething just about everyone takes for granted. But thanks to American ingenuity, you now have a reason to take notice of your water heater, according to the Edison Electric Institute, and the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association, two national associa tions of electric utilities. A totally new method for heating water comes from the Crispaire Com pany of Georgia. Their heat pump wa ter heater, the E Tech, uses electricity in a completely different way to heat water. Instead of creating heat, like every other water heater must do to day, the E Tech transfers existing heat from the air. It can move heat from the basement, the attic, or even out doors, and transfer it to your water heater storage tank. It takes less energy to transfer heat than it does to create it. As a result, the heat pump water heater can help lower your energy costs. Your savings can add up, since wa ter heating accounts for about 15 percent of your monthly energy bill. Besides lower energy costs, the E Tech supplies free air conditioning as a by-product of transferring heat. You’ll get the equivalent air condi tioning of a window-size air condi tioner. This can help keep your basement air drier. “The E Tech heat pump water heater represents a major advance m ent on all fro n ts ,” said Tom Farkas, residential program man ager for the Edison Electric Insti tute. "The unit is small and light weight (it can fit on top of the wa ter heater tank). This means you can order it through the mail, and if you're handy, you can install it yourself.” Operating costs are comparable to. and in some cases substantially lower than, gas water heating units. And remember the free air condi tioning and dehumidification you get too. The E Tech offers a very attrac tive payback period compared with re sista n c e w ater h ea te rs. The payback period is the length of time it takes for the energy savings to pay you back the higher purchase price. The E Tech’s payback period is typically 2- to 6-years, based on how much hot water your home uses. The more you use it, the shorter the payback. For more pricing and information about the E Tech, please call 404 458 6643. Cleaning gutters is a chore that most of us would like to avoid. But allowing your gutters and downspouts to clog with leaves and other debris can result in sagging gutters, rotting fascia boards, or worse, clogged foun dation drain tiles that cause cracks in basement walls and allow moisture to seep into your home. A new product, developed by Crane Plastics, Inc., practically eliminates the need for frequent gutter cleaning. The PermaFlow™ Gutter Guard Sys tem doesn’t use standard mesh screens or plastic domes. They are only par tially effective because leaves and debris merely collect on top, which means you still need to clean your gutters. Instead, PermaFlow uses the scientific principle of liquid adhesion. As rainwater flows off the roof and over the downward steps of the PermaFlow gutter guard, the natural surface tension of the water causes it to follow the surface contour into water-carrying channels and through This aluminum ornamental fence own the fence.
