The Betty Furd center that has
rehabilitated the Legendary Darryl
Strawberry has released him and he
has already signed w ith the San Fran­
cisco G iants and plan s to replace right
fielder W illie McGee, because o f an
injured achilles tendon.

Yukon lack Arm
Wrestling
Championship
The Y ukon Jack W orld Ami W res­
tling Championships will muscle then-
way through Portland, OR on June 28-
30. The region’s strongest men and
women will battle biceps at The Refec­
tory (1618 NE 122nd SL, Portland) for
pride, glory, charity and a chance to
qualify for the Y ukon Jack W orld Arm
W restling Championsh ips in San Fran­
cisco, CA on August 26,1994.
The Portland regional cham pi­
onship, which is part o f the 26-city
Y ukon Jack W orld C ham pionship
series, is open to everyone 21 years o f
age and older and will benefit the
O regon Chapter of the National M ul­
tiple Sclerosis Society. Each $5 entry
fee, for which com petitors receive an
official t-shirt, will be donated to MS.
Y ukon Jack will m ake a m atching
donation o f all entry fees.
The double elim ination tourna­
ment, which gets underw ay at 8:30
p.m . sharp (with registration begin­
ning at 7:00 p.m .), is supervised by
the Am erican Arm W restling A sso­
ciation and features four separate di­
visions. There will be three m en’s
w eight classes — 160 lbs and under,
161 -1 9 0 , and 191 lbs and over - and
one w om en’s open division.
W inn ing com petitors on J une 28
and June 29 will m eet in the regional
finals on June 30. O verall winners
will capture $200 and advance to the
W orld C ham pionships, w hile second
place finishers w ill earn $50.
In addition to the four regional
cham pions being crow ned on June
30, a special bouncer/bartender com ­
petition will also be staged beginning
at 8:00 p.m. to determ ine which Port-
land-area bar is the hom e o f the stron­
gest biceps. All men and women ages
21 and over arc invited to com pete on
behalf o f their bar for bragging rights.

through M inneapolis, A lbuquerque,
Denver, Colorado Springs, Seattle,
Tacom a, Baltimore, Richm ond, C hi­
cago, M ilwaukee, Tam pa, O rlando,
New Haven, Hartford, Springfield,
Detroit, San Diego, Boston, Provi­
dence, Syracuse, Buffalo, Rochester,
East Rutherford, N J, and Sacram ento
before culm inating in a nationally
televised sports spectacular in San
Francisco.

50 inner-city children were chosen to
ride on the only 400 pound ham ­
burger in the world - Burger King
C orp.’s five-story hot air balloon in
the shape o f the com pany’s flagship

“launch” was sponsored by the Port­
land Trail Blazers as part o f the Rose
Festival.

40th A nniversary of the fast food
giant as well as the introduction o f an
expanded line o f W hopper sand­
wiches. Portland is the 19th city along
the balloon’s 41 city cross-country
route.
The balloon is piloted by Mark

Colo. Johnson has piloted balloons
for more than 10 years in Redm ond,
W ash, Phoenix, Ariz. and Louisville,
Ky.
W hen fully inflated, the balloon
can hold 1,712,195 W hopper sand­
w iches. It measures 64 feet tall, 55
feet wide and 65,000 cubic feet in
size. Fifteen-hundred square yards of
fabric and 384 hand-sew n sesame
seeds com prise the mammoth meal,
and it requires 20 m inutes to inflate.
