Portland Saturday M arket is the
country’s largest open air market in
continuous operation, with nearly 300
booth spaces and over 500 active ven
dors. It opened in Old Tow n in June
1974. Vendors must make and sell
their own products and are accepted into
the market based on the handcraftedness
and quality of their products.
The boundaries of Portland Sat
urday M arket are Front Avenue and
First Street, from under the Burnside
Bridge to the Fire Station, however
the m arket’s crowds attract other ven
dors to the area. Booths outside the
market boundaries do not m eet m ar
ket qualifications and are unaffiliated
with Portland Saturday Market.
