BOXING HIGHLIGHTS J ohn P hillips Benson won the big showdown w ith W ilson on the Tcchman home court, 65-50. Jason Franklin had a big night when it really counted w ith 31 points. Point guard Earl Clark helped out w ith 15 points fo r Tech Tyron M anlove and Leland Mayes each scored 15 points fo r the Trojans. Benson came rig h t back on F ri day w ith a easy 25 point victory over Roosevelt, 85-60. Jeff N aylor’s 20 paced the Techman over the Rough Riders. Scott M illage had 15 points and D errick Ferres 14 points fo r Roosevelt. W ilson had a real bad week. A f ter the loss to Benson, they went on the road to take on Cleveland. The W arriors came away w ith a big upset over the Trojans, 78-68. Leonard Prescott scored 26 points and team mate Amos A lle n added 25 more for Portland Parks sot to hire swim teachers, lifeguards Portland Parks and Recreation operates programs at 10 outdoor and 6 indoor swim facilities during the summer. They are now hiring qua li fied sta ff to f ill their 350 positions as lifeguards and sw im instructors. The dates o f employm ent are mid-June through late-August. The summer 1994 starting wage for lifeguards is $5.60 per hour and swim instructors $6.25 per hour, w ith experienced employees receiving more. Training courses fo r these posi tions are s till available this w inte r and spring through Portland Parks. M illage scored 16 points for the Rough R id ers. Robbie Buen’s 28 points led Marshall. Madison, behind Joel Greene’ s 30 points beat M arshall 76-61. The Minutemen were again led in scoring by Buen’ s 19 points Cleveland. M ontrail Menefee’ s 16 points paced W ilson. ENTRY DEADLINE FAST APPROACHING FOR RUDWEISER BLAZERS COMMUNITY SUPERSTARS TEAM The deadline fo r nom inations to the Budweiser Blazers Com m unity Superstars Tea is fast approaching. A ll entries must be postmarked by March 4. W ith all o f the outstanding com munity activists, concerned citizens and volunteers that make a difference throughout Oregon and southwest Washington, the Portland T ra il B laz- ers and Budweiser have teamed up to provide the Budweiser Blazer C om m unity Superstars Team. For the third consecutive year, Budweiser and the T ra il Blazers w ill have the opportunity to recognize some o f these outstanding volunteers and help promote the good w ork they are involved w ith. T h irty-six Chambers o f C om merce in Oregon and southwest Wash ington counties have been designated as the prim ary contacts that w ill re view nominations from their county and select 10 that w ill be forwarded to the T ra il Blazers office. A panel o f judges w ill review the regional n om i nations and select the fin a l 10-mem- bers to form the 1993094 budweiser B lazers Comm unity S uperstars Tearn. A t the end o f the regular season, the Budweiser Blazer C om m unity Superstars Team w ill be invited to attend the T ra il B la zers/S e a ttle SuperSonics game at M em orial C o li seum on A p ril 24, 1994. D uring a special half-tim e presentation, each “ Superstar” w ill receive a recogni tion plaque and a $500 check that w ill be donated to the charity o f their choice.
