First, mix ingredients and stir constantly over low heat until sugar is completely dissolved; stir down any grains o f sugar from side o f sauce pan. T hen, cook m ixture to 234-240 F. Each year the drive co llects and d istributes 300,000 pounds o f non-perishable food to m ore than 5,000 needy fam i lies in the Portland m etropolitan area. The volunteers, including stu dents from fourC atholic high schools in the Portland m etropolitan area and 44 parish-based conferences in four counties, collect, sort and package holiday food boxes for delivery D e cem ber 18. If you do serve alcohol, then also provide attractive n o n -a lc o h o lic b e v e ra g e s such as ju ices, sodas and sparkling waters. S erve h igh-protein foods that slow dow n the effects o f alcohol. M eats, cheeses, eggs and seafood arc m uchbetterthan salty or sw eet snacks. D esignate a bartender. Provide a jig g e r so alcohol is m easured at an ounce o r less per drink. And keep alcohol stored behind the bar to re duce the tem ptation for people to guest gets hom e safely. Therefore, take the car keys from the intoxicated guest and arrange to have a sober g u est do the driving. O r call a cab, friend o r relative. O r make arrangem ents for him to spend the night.
