Renovations Expected To Reduce
Crime And Enhance Livability

At the corner of NE Cully Blvd
and Emerson Street, there was a
ground breaking ceremony and news
conference that kicked off the renova­
tions of four apartm ents in the Cully
N eighborhood, w hich have been
plagued with drug dealing and other
street related crimes. The apartm ent
buildings, the Galaxy A partm ents
w hich has 108 units; the Townhouse
Manor Apartments with 27 units; the
Cully Apartments with 18 units and
the W endorf A partm ents w ith 25
units, w ill also undergo a name change
and will be known as the Villa de
Clara Vista Apartments. The four
apartment complexes are located close
to one another, in the area ofN E Cully
Blvd and Killingsworth Street. The
theme for this news conference was

Portland Development Commission,
with additional funding provided by
the Federal Home Loan Bank and
Multnomah County ’s Weatherization
Program and the Pacific Power W ash­
ington Program. In addition, the State
o f Oregon Housing and Community
Services D epartm ent provided a
$100,000 H ousing D evelopm ent
Grant and a $2.9 million allocation of
low income housing tax credits. The
tax credit allocation, will enable Ha­
cienda to expand the scope o f the
project to include a Head Start build­
ing and a social and health services
facility.
