to the 1993 N ational 4-H Y outh C on­
gress in C hicago next fall.
B oardm an, daughter o f C urt and
A nita Boardm an o f Southw est Port­
land, is O reg o n ’s nom inee for the trip
sponsored by G uide Dogs for the B lind
o f San Rafael. The sponsor o f the 4-H
guide dog- puppy program s aw ards
one trip to 4 -H m em bers in nine W est­
ern states.
B oardm an, w ho will be a senior at
W ilson High School, has raised two
guide dog puppies. She has m et the
ow ner o f the first guide dog she raised

Blind for final training.
A 4-H m em ber for eight years, she
has also had projects in clothing, pho­

She is a teen leader o f a 4-H dog
and sm all anim al club and serves on
the M etro 4-H child developm ent and
recognition com m ittees. In addition
to4-H , she volunteers at the W ashing­
ton Park Zoo and is active in Explorer
Scouts. In school, she volunteers at
the W ashington Park Z oo and is ac­
tive in E xplorer Scouts. In school, she
volunteers in special education pro­
gram s, has been a counselor at O u t­
door School, runs track and is a m em ­
ber of the yearbook staff.
H ein, daughter o f Randall and
M ary H ein o f Southeast Portland, is
the state nom inee for one o f 37 trips
sponsored by A m oco Foundation for
achievem ent in the energy m anage­
m ent program .
H ein, a 1993 graduate o f C leve­
land High School, plans to study en g i­
neering at OSU. A 4-H m em ber for six
years, her projects have included horse,
clothing and foods. As part o r her
energy m anagem ent program , she
learned how to perform routine m ain­
tenance on the fam ily’s tw o cars and
kept a record o f their fuel efficiency.
She has been a ju n io r leader and
teen leader o f her own 4-H hom e
econom icsclub. In school, as an honor
student she was active in student gov­
ernm ent, music and the Big Sister/
Little Sister program .
Kuntz, daughter o f Gary and Kelly
K untz, is the nom inee for a trip sp o n ­
sored by B ridgestone/Firestone Trust
Fund for her overall achievem ent in
leadership. T he 1993g rad u a teo f S un­
set High School plans to attend the
U niversity o f Pudget Sound in the fall
Kintz, a 4-H m em ber for seven years,
is also a teen leader and a junior
addition to her 4-H activities. Kuntz
has been a volunteer at the W ashing­
ton Park Z oo and is on the staff of
ZooC am p as a counselor and a m em ­
ber o f E xplorer Scouts.
Stahl, daughter o f A lan and Janice
Stahl o f N ortheast Portland, is the
nom inee for one o f 20 trips sponsored
by Dow Brands, Inc., in the area of
food conservation, preservation and
safety.
Stahl has had a w ide variety of
projects during her four years in 4-H,
inc luding food preservation, clothing,
knitting, horticulture and expressive
arts. In food preservation, she has
canned, frozen and dried a variety of
foods. She is also a 4-H ju n io r leader.

cattle to her grandparents, who started a

veterinary science. She is a junior leader
and a teen leader of her own 4-H chib.

Victor Nelson
G ladstone High School, has taken
m ore than 1,100 pictures w hile in
photography. She has also learned
her way around a darkroom and ex ­
perim ented with various kinds of
prints. She has also had projects in
such areas as foods, fiber arts, home
environm ent, sw ine and clothing.
The current Miss 4-H , she is a co ­
leader o f the county’s4 -H A m bassa­
dor team. She counts work on her
school’s literary m agazine and m em ­
bership in the art club am ong her
other activities.
Nelson, son o f V ictor and Bette
Nelson, is the nom inee for one o f 50
trips sponsored by F leish m an n ’s
Y east Co. for working w ith breads in
the 4-H foods and nutrition project.
Nelson, an eight-year 4-H m em ber,
will be a senior at Lake O sw ego High
School. He has used his know ledge
about breadm aking to prepare spe­
cial foods for church events, E xten­
sion meetings, and other activities.
He has also taught both youth and
adults about baking.
