Start project, will be represented at
Tuesday’s ceremonies by Donnie G rif
fin, director o f corporate com m unica
tions and public affairs.
Barbara Brunkow, M arylhurst vice
president forcollege relations, said also
that members o f the news media are
welcome to attend the event. The sum
mer institute, she noted, is the first o f its
kind in the nation and is seen as a
possible model for other Head Start
teacher-training programs throughout
the c o u n try -”helping pre-school chil
dren from low-income, minority fam i
lies to acquire a lifelong love o f science
and m ath.”
The 20 women who attended the
month-long institute at M arylhurst this
summer, are currently applying the b a
sic scientific knowledge acquired dur
ing their campus experience in their
Head Start classes in the Portland m et
ropolitan area.
Marylhurst College will present a
similar institute next summer for a sec
ond group of Head Start teachers.
