Loren Cunningham led short term outreach team s to G uatem ala as early as the 1960's. In 1982 a team from YW AM Elm Springs, Arkansas drove to G uatem ala for their field assignm ent. D uring that tim e, Loren Cunningham and O ren Paris flew to G uatem ala and m et with the C h ristian president, E frain R ios M ontt. Six m o n th s later, over 800 Y W A M ’ers from all over the world converged on this needy nation for six weeks o f intensive outreach. F ollow ing that o u t reach, a sm all adm inistra tive team was established in G uatem ala. In June o f 1983, a piece o f property was located for outreach team s; however, the ow n ers wanted to sell the prop erty, not rent it. Christian leads joined together and sought the Lord. A ftercare ful consideration, they de c id e d to p u rc h a se th e p ro p e rty . Y W A M ’ersandC hristianm inistriesall over the world pitched in to purchase w hat is now “ Villa JUCUM ,” or the literal translation would be “YW AM V illage.” S in c e th a t tim e, h u n d red s o f Y W A M ’ers and non-Y W A M ’ers have joined us in reaching this beautiful, but needy country. In 1988 over 128,000 people heard the gospel through drama p resen tatio n s alone. A lso, in 198, YW AM Guatemala hosted the first“Go APPLES Fest” to be held in a developing coun try. Hundreds o f young people were challenged to be involved in the Great Commission. Our Mercy Ministry Team regularly reaches out to refugees, the poor and needy, alcoholics and glue sniffers in the city dump. In 1989, after prayer and fasting as a community, we decided to include YWAM Guatemala as an extension o f Y W A M ’s University o f the Nations. We are focusing on building our uni versity program to provide courses in health care and com m unications. O r are you planning to move? If so, make sure the IRS has the correct address to mail your refund. Last year Oregonians had nearly $250,000 returned to IRS by the Postal Service as undelivcrable because IRS didn’t have current addresses. D on’t let this happen to you. Put a change o f address in at the Post Office when you move or list a more perm a nent address on your returns, like a parent, if you move often. Receiving your refund at the cor rect address is not the only reason to inform IRS of your move. If IRS tries to notify you of a change in your return, or sends a bill, the notice is legally effec tive even if you d o n ’t receive it. D on’t let this happen to you. Being informed is your best protection. If you hav en ’t filed your return yet but your preprinted label has the old address on it, simply correct the address on the label. This is the simplest way to notify IRS o f the change.
