On Saturday nights on the corner of Killingsworth and Mississippi, the
Tippm Inn literally rocks as T C Rockmaster (Tony Elidjal weaves the
intricate melodies and rhythms of the latest cuts into a style of spinning that
is definately more than one of a kind
The club is usually packed and. though most of the patrons are from the
immediate vicinity when asked why they are in attendance weekend after
weekend, they will quickly tell you that it's not the neighborhood location,
it's the music.
Slowly but surely. Rockmaster s style is becoming known city wide, and
many hard core downtowners can be seen among the Saturday night
crowd at the Tippm Inn.
The Rockmaster is a true artist in more ways than one Most of the
clothes that he wears are designed and made by himself He is also an
accomplished percussionist and drummer and has played with local masters
like Ktone and Bruce Smith. Rockmaster states that his knowledge of
music from the technical standpoint has helped him develop the style of
his disc jockeying
"M andela" Producer Hosts South
African W om en's Day Celebration
On Saturday, August 9. 1986, Peter Davis, the award winning producer
of the film Mandela.' will host a public discussion and presentation of his
film. The film screening and discussion will be held at 7 00 p.m. at the Mt
Olivet Baptist Church, 116 N E. Schuyler IN E 1st and Broadway).
Peter Davis' Portland appearance with his film will be held in honor of
South Africa Women's Day The event is sponsored by the Oregon Ram
bow Coalition, the Media Project and the American Friends Service
Committee Southern Africa Project Admission is free donations encour
aged Proceeds from the event will benefit the anti apartheid activities of
the American Friends Service Committee Southern Africa Project and the
Rainbow Coalition.
Peter Davis has spent the past ten years producing films about South
Africa, including "Generations of Resistance
South Africa the White
Laager." and "Mandela
His production of films critical to the South
Africa regime has resulted in a ban against his entry into the country for any
purpose Despite this ban, Mr Davis travelled illegally to South Africa in
late 1985 to interview Winnie Mandela and otheis for this film

Born in Liverpool. England and raised in Nigeria. Rockmaster comes from
a family of 10. including mmself His parents urged all of their children to
attend college in Europe However Rockmaster had his eve on the States
Ever since his younger days, one ot his favorite pastimes has been
dancing, and after arriving in the States, most nights were spent in dance
clubs
Michael Vance was my favorite D J .," says Rockmaster, "and I
used to watch him and ask questions Then one day I decided to buy two
turntables and a mixer and give it iny best shot I used to practice hours
upon hours, playing music the way I'd like to hear it played One evening
Michael was over listening to me and told me I was ready for the club
It s been six years since Rockmaster bought those turntables, and he
hasn t looked back since Friends, family and private parties were testing
grounds for his specialized technique

Chio s and now, the place where it all started. The Tippm Inn
T.C. Rockmaster has also had a guest spot on KBOO courtesy of
Shaheed Haamid Nevertheless, his favorite audience is The Tippiri Inn
