T uesday to announce plans to defeat the
Oregon Maniuana Initialise (Ballot
Measure 5).

Throughout the press conference,
opponents attacked Ballot Measure 5
They said the measure is "intentionally
poorly u o rd e d " in order to confuse
people
" I f Oregonians know what it means,
they w ill vote the measure down in
November,'* said Stale Representative
Paul Phillips Phillips, who also is co-

said Ballot Measure 5 w ill he bad for
Oiegon's business and higher educa
tion. Burton said, "w hat happens when
we tell Japanese businessmen, who we
are trying to attract into this State, and
when we say come to Oregon because
we have the availability o f drugs and
manjuana ’ W ho's going to hire Oregon
graduates from the universities, where
we have the availability o f drugs to the
level it w ill be if this Measure is pas
sed?"
The panel said Oregonians must join
their efforts to defeat Ballot Measure 5
Alledging proponents o f the Measure
are spending over a m illion dollars,
plus they said the National Organiza
lion for the Reform o f Manjuana 1 aw s
has targeted Portland The national or
ganization w ill hold its annual conven
tion in Portland. Thursday through
Saturday.

cial expressions, each signifying a
specific emotion surprise, disgust,
sadness, anger, fear and happiness
When the volunteers looked afraid,
their bodies reacted as it they were af
raid Their heart rates speeded up and
their skin temperatures dropped For

with the other emotions
How can we pul this principle to
work in our own lives? Here arc some
suggestions
• Smile to cheer yourself up. And
make a real effort A false smile —
one that’ s too sudden, too brief, uses
the mouthbut not the eyes — doesn't
