March 27.1986 Conversion act gains speed Oregonians fro m around the state w ill be taking their support for the Oregon Econom ic Conversaion Act ( H B .2722), and several other pieces o f essential legislation, to a rally at the State C a p ito l at noon on Friday, A p ril 5. H .B .2 7 2 2 , introduced by Rep. W ayne Fawbush (D -H o o d River), will levy a surcharge on the cash price received by O regon companies for the m anufacture and sale o f nuclear wea pons or their componenls. The monies raised by the surcharge will be used to help companies invovled in nuclear weapons manufacturing convert from nuclear-weapons production amstnictise industries. "Economic conversion to is more simply l«aiuung and providing a way to con vert from one industrial activity to an- « h e r," said Rep Fawbush.
