C H IL I B E E F S K IL L E T I package 110 or.) mixed vegetables 1 IMiuiid ground beet !4 cup chopped onion 2 teaspoons chili powder I teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper l!4 cups water I can (8 or.) tomato sauce I '/) cups Minute rice Prepare vegetables as directed on package; drain Brown ground beef in skillet with onion, leaving meal in large chunks. Sprinkle with chili powder, salt and pepper. Add water, tomato sauce and vegetables; bring to a boil. Stir in rice. Cover; remove from heal and let stand 10 minutes. The atmosphere was so fes tive at one point, I thought perhaps this was really a scene fro m some M ardi Gras movie I remember from the Sixties — or this is an open house lo a n insane asylum. Ken Adair, Harold Johnson from the Olymlpian Fitness Center were there. I also saw Thara M em o ry, but he was so busy talking that I just gave him my best, " H i , how you doin' " wave, as I did Rick Mitchell and Commissioner Mar garet Strahan As the evening rocked on, my feet to ld me they were ready to take a b reak. U n lik e the l-.lliot B reakers, who did their thing at one o f the en tertainm en t areas out on the con course, my goal was to find a scat. O ur timing was perfect: I sal right next to S tarr W aters, a N ortheast resident. She was sipping a soft drink while wailing for her husband Sunni, o f the Street Corner Singers, who had just finished perform ing on the con course I asked Starr what she thought o f the night’s happenings. She said, " I ’ ve been having a lot o f fun, and he (C la rk ) appears to be a friendly, open person. If the next year is any thing like the p a rty , w e’ re in fo r a lot o f changes for the better."
