Terms of the contract were not dis closed but Pax is said to be one of the highest paid guards in N B A history. With a contract like Magic has, this puls our N o. 4 in some pretty fast company. I*m a Paxson fan and I'm glad his brand o f ball will remain in P o rt land for a few more years. Benson beats Wilson The Benson Engineers exhibited their poise and composure Thursday night in Civic Stadium, holding o ff Wilson 21-IS to maintain their un beaten status in the P ortland In terscholastic League football race. T railin g 7-0 after one quarter, Benson got its act together and Eric Shamsud-Din shaked and baked, with speed, for a 75-yard touch down run. Quarterback Chris Price then caught the spirit and combined with wide receiver Jeff Maxwell for a SO-yard touchdown pass, and a 7 point lead at halftime. Midway through the third period Benson's Phil Sturva fum bled a punt return and W ilson's M ike Sherman scooped it up at the Engi neer's 6-yard line. On the Trojan's first play, Rob Hendry got the call and ran it home o ff left tackle. With the tension mounting and the excite ment setting in, Wilson Coach Jer ry Lyons went for the win. Going for a two-point conversion, q uar terback Cam Johnson made the bootleg work and the Trojan's took the lead 15-14. Benson took it like wale o ff a duck's back and Maxwell went to work. He fired to Bryant Scott for 12 and then proceeded to hit Maxwell with passes for 21 and 15 yards. Shamsud-Din took the J IM P A X S O N mystery out o f the night with a 10- yard score and that was all she wrote. Benson 21-15. Benson garnered 326 yards of to tal offense to W ilson's 227, and Price passed for 166 yards. Maxwell had five catches for 128 yards, and Shamsud-Din gobbled up 128 yards in 14 carries. Cleveland began the evening at Civic with a sterling perform ance highlighted by James Simms scoring three touchdowns, and scorching Lincoln 28-7. The 2 1-point second quarter burst by Cleveland w ould’ve had Dandy Don singing "T urn Out the Lights" at (he half. Lincoln's only score came in the first quarter on a 40- yard touchdown run by Donnie Hines. Cleveland quarterback Ryan V ikan was 7 o f 10 in passing for 168 yards. Simms racked up 90 yards in 12 carries and had touch down runs o f 2 yards, 57 yards and I yard. G rant High's powerful fullback Kevin H unt went berserk in the first half Friday night in Civic Sta dium, and plowed through (he Roo sevelt defense 20 limes for 110 yards and two touchdowns The Generals had a total of 26 plays in the half so that tells Hunt's story. On G ra n t's first series o f the game H unt mauled Roosevelt's backfield for 32 yards down to the Roughriders* 28-yard line. Tw o plays later, quarterback M ike Car- roll hit receiver Tom Walsh with a 28-yard touchdown pass to start the battle. Grant 7-0. H unt fin ished o f f this series w ith a 3-yard run up the middle to put the G en erals in the driver's seat, 14-0. W ith H unt still on a tear in the first h a lf, the Generals marched d o w n field , and a lough end zone pass interference call against Roo sevelt suddenly found Hunt breath ing fire from ihe 5-yard line. No suspense here. Hunt scored on a 5- yard jaunt and the Generals were up 20-0. Final score, 20-7 G rant. The Generals are in good position with (heir 4-2 League mark. Considering there are only three weeks left in the regular season, the Generals are in the Hunt for one of the four state playoff spots. The three-tim e defending P IL champion Madison Senators rolled to a 27-6 win over winless Marshall Friday night at Civic Stadium. Madison's Kevin Lowe, a 5-fool- 8, 155-pound halfback ran the ball for 122 yards in 9 carries and scored a touchdown. He also caught a 32- yard touchdown pass and had a 80 yard touchdown run called back be cause of a penalty. Madison's first score came just 22 seconds into the game. On the first play from scrimmage, he took an option pitchout left in the wishbone- set and moved for the sideline, juked back to the m iddle and cruised for the score on a 59-yard scoring play. Kevin Felt's pass interception at the Madison 45 set up the Senators* third score. Quarterback John Power found Lowe easing down the right sideline for a 32-yard touch down strike.
