sanctuary o f Maranatha Church w ill
begin on Sunday, September 9 th ,
and continue through Wednesday,
September 12th. The main event is
scheduled fo r Sunday a fte rn o o n at
3:30 p .m . The M a ra n a th a Mass
C hoir w ill sing, and the Rev. Owen
S hackett o f P e o p le ’ s C h u rc h ,
T acom a, w ill be the speaker. A
reception w ill fo llo w , and tours o f
the new facilities w ill be available.
"B u ild in g to serve” is the slogan
th a t has expressed the v is io n o f
M aranatha’ s pastor, the Rev. John
G a rlin g to n , J r ., and the co n g re ­
g a tio n . It states th a t the ch u rch
w ill now be able to serve the co m ­
m u n ity in a greater w ay, not o n ly
w ith the enlarged and b e a u tifu l
100-seat sa n ctu a ry but w ith the
other inci tased accommodations as
well. The new facilities include ex­
panded s ta ff o ffic e s and m ore
classroom s. P a rt o f the fo rm e r
b u ild in g is being rem odeled to
become a m ulti-purpose space w ith
a p o te n tia l fo r youth a ctivitie s in ­
cluding sports events.
On the day before the dedication,
the church w ill also be honoring the
pastor and his wife, Yvonne, on the
occasion o f th e ir S ilv e r W edding
Anniversary. There w ill be a recep­
tion for them on Saturday, Septem­
ber 8th, in the afternoon
On Sunday through Wednesday,
September 9-12, evening services at
7:30 p .m . are scheduled. A lte r ­

The firs t annual Guadalupe Day
w ill be held at The G ro tto , The

S anctuary

S o rro w fu l M o th e r, on September
8th. The c e le b ra tio n w ill c o m ­
m em orate the appearance o f the
V irg in M a ry to an Aztec In d ia n in
1531, near Tepeyac, Mexico.
Featured that day w ill be
festivities including, a Spanish sing-
a -lo n g , d a n cing , a procession o f
flowers and a no-host Mexican-style
lu n ch . Rev. M a rtin u s C aw ley,
O .C .S .C ., tra n s la to r o f ancient
m anuscripts o f the legend o f O ur
Lady o f Guadalupe from the Artec
language, w ill make a presentation
and lecture about the phenomenon
A special outdoor mass is scheduled
at noon. The mass w ill be celebrated
in Spanish and in English.
F estivities w ill begin at 10 a m.
w ith a m orning prayer service and
conclude at 3 p.m The event is free
and open to the p u b lic . A ll in ­
terested are urged to b rin g a
donation o f flowers or roses for the
procession.
