S u m m it II , a " C a ll to A c tio n in Support o f Black Single M others,” is being convened in over 40 co m m u n itie s across the n a tio n by the n a tio n a l o rg a n iza tio n o f Deltas in an attem pt to "enhance the human capital potential o f single m others." As a p a rt o f the D elta n e tw o rk o f 125,000 m em bers, the P o rtla n d Chapter has been selected as one o f the tw o west coast cities to host a Summit II meeting H a irs to n , and the S u m m it II coordinator, Jeanne H artzog, have scheduled the Portland presentation fo r S a tu rd a y , June 2 3 rd , at the Cascade C am pus o f P o rtla n d Com m unity College from 9:00 a m to 5 p.m. They stress that Summit II is a b e g in n in g m eeting fo r establishing a long term project to d e ve lop a pla n fo r a c tio n . Lela Roberts, program chair fo r the day, has a nnounced M a rg a re t C a rte r, counselor at P.C .C . Sylvania C am pus, as keynote speaker fo r Summit 11 Carter is expected to include such issues as m o tiv a tio n , se lf-h e lp , as well as access to career o p p o rtu n ity in her address. O b je ctive s o f S u m m it II are o u tlin e d in fo u r com prehensive groupings: ( I ) to fa cilita te the fo r m a tio n o f a c o a litio n to in itia te collective action; (2) to identify local barriers to econom ic developm ent fo r single m o th e rs; (3) to devise local strategies to overcome barriers identified; (4) to make an impact on 1984 local, state and national elec tio n s th a t enhances the lives o f single mothers regardless o f racial, ethnic, religious, or socio-economic background.
