More than 1,300 prominent guests and anxious fans witnessed the presentation of 29 awards to re cording artists and performers of the theatre, movies, televiison and sports. Special awards were given to Coretla Scott King (N A A C P Key of Life Award); Quincy Jones and Michael Jackson (who shared the Entertainment of the Decade Award). Standing ovations were given to astronaut Lt. Col. Guion S. Bluford. Jr., and Rosa Parks. Mayor Tom Bradley presented tele vision producer Aaron Spelling with the N A A C P Humanitarian Award, for a gift of more than $100,000 to Derrick Gordon, a young heart pa tient victim, who received a life saving heart transplant. Some of the winners in the vari ous categories were: best perform ance by an actor in a motion picture — Eddie Murphy in Trading Places; best performance by an actress in a dramatic series, miniseries or televi sion movie— Madge Sinclair, Trap per John, M .D .; best performance by an actor in a dramatic series, ( w / h / PRESENTS Make this New Year's Eve count down one to remember with an af fair you’ll remember! Morris, Portland, (between North Williams Avenue and N .E. Union on Morris). The annual party is presented by the Center. This year gifts for the chil dren will be presented by Riedel In ternational (100 E .T. dolls and can dy canes) and members of the Christ Child Society (a Catholic Women’s Auxiliary). Many stuffed doll pre sents are also made by ladies at Cal- aroga Terrace. (These may be the only gifts some of these children will receive this year.) State Senator Bill McCoy will ser- vie as Santa Claus this (his first) year. Tom Tyson, Director of the Cen ter, will serve as Master of Cere monies. Mrs. Eileen Ivancie, wife of Portland's mayor, will also be pre sent.
