Show girls shine in the spotlight Rising from the hippodrome track to the apex o f the arena in a dazzling new aerial display, former showgirls Denise Aubrey and Pamela Hernandez make their world debut in this brilliant new edition o f The Oreatest Show On Earth. The talented two, known simply as “ Satin,” thus become the first Black aerial act ever to perform in the 113-year history o f Ringling Bros, and Barnum & Bailey Circus, produced by Irvin Feld and Kenneth Feld and coming to the Portland Mem orial Coliseum on Thursday, September 13th for 8 sparkling performances through Sunday, September 18th. Pamela and Denise perform a powerful, yet graceful mid-air gymnastic ballet on an elaborate five-pointed star-shaped aerial apparatus (called a ‘cradle* in circus parlance). They perform a series o f m id-air maneuvers, climaxing their artistry with a daring “ helicopter spin“ as the device is lowered to (he floor. W orking their way up through the circus ranks, Denise and Pamela were enthusiastically supported by friends in every field o f circus endeavor. Proving (hat great talent abounds throughout the entire performing cast of Ringling Bros, and Barnrm & Bailey Circus, Denise and Pamela are espe cially proud o f their rise to a featured spot in this year's new edition. “ We worked very hard and spent countless hours, but it was worth every e ffo rt,“ Pamela says. “ This is something Denise and I have wanted for such a long tim e.“ Among other featured acts this season is the onc-and-only Gunther Gebel- Willianis demonstrating his mastery over the wild animal kingdom; the circus debut o f The Pink Panther, the precision flying o f two exquisite troupes o f The Flying Espanas; the crazy chimpanzee capers o f the Mickey Antalek Chimps; and hordes o f elephant-riding clowns and showgirls.
